Lac des Iles Hosts Government Visitors
North America’s only graphite mine is attracting more attention than ever as critical minerals now top government agendas as Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, the Trump White House and the European Union seek to build secure supply chains in the West.
On July 10, 2025 we were pleased to host Stéphane Séjourné, Executive Vice-President of the European Commission for Prosperity and Industrial Strategy, who was accompanied by Ambassador of the EU to Canada on a visit to Northern’s Lac des Iles mine as part of a broader Canadian mission to look for ways to strengthen industrial partnerships between Canada and the European Union. That followed quick on the heels of a visit in June by Quebec Minister of Natural Resources and Forests, Maïté Blanchette Vézina, to understand our plans to extend the life of the mine and support Quebec’s leadership position in Canada’s energy transition.

Northern Graphite is developing a fully integrated global supply chain for natural graphite, with operations and projects in Canada, Namibia and the European Union. Lac des Iles, located near Mont-Laurier in Quebec, is one of only a handful of operating graphite mines in the Western world and a cornerstone of Northern Graphite’s growing production base. The Company is working to increase output at the site to meet rising global demand for natural graphite, which is essential for manufacturing lithium-ion batteries and other advanced technologies.
